(Low Carbon Mild Steel)
Low carbon mild steel shim stock is cold rolled to achieve its hardness of 165VPN (min) which is ideal for shims, washers, gaskets and also suitable for drawing or forming. Low carbon mild steel cannot be hardened except by cold working because their carbon content is too low for significant heat treatment reaction to take place. However, they can be case hardened to give a harder surface.
Mild steel shim stock is available in a range of sizes from .050mm (.002″) – .508mm (.020″) and is sold in a variety of ways from convenient packets to continuous metres to suit your requirements.
